When the day awakens', the color of life in words and images. Meditations on light and dark.
The author is Jurjen Beumer and it is illustrated with images of paintings by Ton Schulten.

'In the mid-seventies I started my work as a pastor in Twente. I liked to be there, to walk, and after such a walk to have a drink on a terrace. After a few years I left for the Randstad.... What I did not know was that Ootmarsum would develop into a true artist's town in the years that followed. The initiator of this was Ton Schulten. He received his education as a graphic designer at the art academy in Enschede. His advertising agency was successful, but still, his heart lay with free artistry. When he decided to give up the advertising world, he chose, together with his wife Ank, for an uncertain existence for the time being. Until he found his passion step by step in color and landscape.
His paintings are mosaics of the landscape, depicted in unprecedentedly beautiful colours. A few years ago I “accidentally” walked into Ton Schulten’s gallery and visited his museum. The colours splashed from the walls, I was moved and my heart started beating faster. Would it be possible, I thought then, to compile a meditative book together with Ton, a book in which we convey our mutual inspiration in words and images?
