Ton Schulten 1938- 2025

The last brushstroke has been made, the paint has dried, the canvas remains black... In October 2025, Ton Schulten passed away as a grateful man.

To all of us, he was, of course, the artist — the man of light, colours, the ash trees around Ootmarsum, the coulisse landscape. But above all, he was a man full of life. Always with an idea, a plan, a spark that ignited others.

Ton could be sharp, sometimes impatient, but always driven by his desire to create something beautiful, something real. And when he succeeded — when the work was right — he beamed. You could see the twinkle in his eyes and feel that he was happy, that it had become another piece of his world. A piece of the world that he loved to share with everyone who wanted to see it.

Ton taught us to look at the world differently: with more attention, more colour, more heart. We carry that way of looking with us. In our work, in our lives, in how we continue to meet each other.

Ton will be missed, but he remains with us — in every canvas, in every ray of light over Ootmarsum, and in everything he set in motion. He entrusted us with his work, his dreams, his own museum. We will continue with that, in his spirit.

You remain most welcome at the Ton Schulten Museum and the Chez-Moi Ton Schulten Gallery in Ootmarsum!
